Travel

Traveling to San Francisco

For those flying into the Bay Area we are lucky enough to have three international airports at an arms reach. Both San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Oakland International Airport (OAK) are accessible by Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) or a 20-minute drive for those choosing to rent a car. San Jose International Airport (SJC) is a little further at a 50-minute drive but can be a bargain, particularly for Alaska Airlines and Southwest passengers.

Traveling around San Francisco

We love our public transportation! For those guests that are staying in San Francisco (check out our hotel deals!), and aren’t planning on taking day trips out side the City, we recommend NOT renting a car. Taking San Francisco’s rapid transit, busses, and taxis will be cheaper and more convenient. Parking in San Francisco is pretty much the worst in the country.

Getting around San Francisco without a car can seem tricky but its actually pretty simple. Bay Area Rapid Transit is our subway system; it works well for visiting neighboring cities like Oakland and Berkeley but is only useful in San Francisco if you are seeing attractions close to Market Street or Mission Street. MUNI is our bus and light rail system; MUNI will take you almost anywhere you wan to go in the City. Each system’s site has thorough maps but if aren’t sure ask a local or a bus driver. We are super friendly.

TAXIS!!! San Francisco is only seven miles by seven miles. That means if you are tired of other people and don’t want to walk anymore taking a taxi is never that much of a splurge.

Both of us have lived on our own for over a decade now. As such we have a lot of things to make our household complete. But it would be exciting to get rid of some of those hand me down dishes and craigslist furniture.
